# Routines

> Run work on a schedule, or whenever a matching email or calendar event arrives.

A routine is work an agent does again and again without you asking each time — a Monday traffic report, a daily inbox triage, a reply whenever a certain kind of email arrives.

## Creating a routine

The easiest way is to ask in the conversation: *"Every weekday at 9am, summarize yesterday's sign-ups and post it to #growth."* The agent sets up the routine for you.

You can also create one from the **Routines** view of a project, or from **Routines** in the sidebar, which lists routines across all your projects.

## Triggers

| Trigger | Runs when |
| - | - |
| **Schedule** | At a set time — **Daily**, **Weekly**, **Hourly**, **Once**, or a custom schedule. |
| **Email** | A new email in a connected inbox matches your filter. |
| **Calendar** | A calendar event in a connected calendar matches your filter. |

Email and calendar filters are written in natural language — for example *"invoices from vendors"* or *"external meetings with new prospects"*. No exact matches or regular expressions needed.

## Managing routines

* Filter routines by **Active**, **Paused**, or **Completed**.
* Open a routine to see its run history and what each run produced.
* Pause a routine to stop it temporarily, or edit its instructions and trigger.
* Each routine can use its own model, so frequent, simple routines can run on a lighter model to save credits. See [Plans and credits](/docs/plans-and-credits.md#choosing-a-model).

> [!TIP]
>
> If a routine sends emails or posts on your behalf, its drafts come to you as [approval cards](/docs/features/approvals.md) so you can review them before they go out.
